Speech and Debate
Hi! My name is Srishti Sripada, and I am a rising freshman. I will teach Congressional Speech and Debate for grades 4 to 9. I have 5 years of experience with Congressional Debate, and 2 years experience with Impromptu speaking. Throughout the course, I will go over argumentation, speechwriting, research strategies, rebuttals, and overall verbal speech techniques. I have developed a curriculum that will allow students to develop a confidence in public speaking, as well as hone their argumentation skills in speech and debate. There is no previous debate experience required. The course will be filled with examples, practice debates, videos, and fun games! At the end of the course, we will have a full congressional debate on a bill to practice incorporating all the new skills they have learned throughout the course.

In this lesson, they will learn constructive argumentation and speech structure. This will teach them how to be prepared in a round and how to construct and evolve their arguments.

The students have learned the basics of argumentation writing, so in this lesson, the students will learn how to advance their arguments and impact them. They will learn pathos, ethos, and logos.

In this lesson, the students will be learning how to write a late-round speech, called a crystallization speech. It is filled with rebuttals, new clashing points that haven’t been brought up before, and are very important to Congressional debate.

In this final lesson, the students will be participating in a mock debate round, where they will debate a bill. They will be incorporating all the skills they have learned throughout this course.
