Hi! My name is Amrita Guha and I will be teaching English Comprehension classes to Grades 4 through 5. Writing has always been a passion of mine and over the years I have accumulated several books and tips that have helped enhance my personal writing ability. Throughout the duration of this 4-week program, I hope to teach my students all that I know while leading them through a variety of crucial lessons needed in their grade span. I have created a curriculum that will improve their comprehension and essay writing skills, my main goal being to create an enjoyable learning environment where students can learn through interesting books and immersive teaching resources like Kahoot!

Student/Parent Reviews

"Want to give a shout out to Amrita who did the English comprehension workshop today. I personally did not attend but my son was waiting for me to come home to talk all about it and how much he enjoyed."

Week 1

Mondays & Fridays

11 - 12:30

In the first week of classes, we’ll begin our novel, “City of Ember” and finish 2-4 chapters, some in class and others assigned for reading. This week, I will be introducing students to their character and theme development charts as well as teaching 2 grammatical lessons. In the first couple of classes, we will play many games and students will be given more assignments so I am able to gauge their level of writing.

Week 2

Mondays & Fridays

11 - 12:30

In the second week of classes, we’ll continue chapters in our novel and I’ll allow students to share observations they’ve noted in their character and theme development charts. This week there will be several presentations on real-world connections we are beginning to see at this point of the novel. In terms of writing, this week we’ll also go over, “the parts of a paragraph” and practice some samples in class.

Week 3

Mondays & Fridays

11 - 12:30

In this third week, we will be nearing the end of the novel, and I’ll look into deeper connections and themes with the students. This week, students will be assigned several Socratic questions which we will discuss in class. More grammatical lessons will be presented and the class will be able to play kahoot and several other games through which I can assess their growth in grammar and writing.

Week 4

Mondays & Fridays

11 - 12:30

This last week, students will put their grammatical and observational skills to use to write a well written paragraph about a certain theme or real world connection displayed in the novel of their choice.
