Intro to HTML/CSS

spoorthipfp.png

My name is Spoorthi Bedadam and I’m the tutor for the HTML/CSS course. I’m a rising 8th grader and I have a large passion for coding. I have taken interest in technology over the years. Starting from my first simple program in code.org to participating in a Lego Mindstorms challenge where we had to design a robot and program it to follow a course. I have designed this course in order to get kids on the younger side to start take interest in coding. The curriculum features interactive Kahoots and ends with the students showcasing their very own website!

THANK YOU!

Week One

On The first day, the students will have an introduction to HTML and will be lightly introduced to a few HTML tags. Because this is the introductory class, they will be setting up their notebooks, and also setting up a codepen account to try out the things that have been taught in the class. Afterward, we will be playing a fun Kahoot to test out what they have learned.

Week Two

The second session consists of learning different tags and trying them out in repl. We will be starting our website. I will demo to them the different tags using codepen.io and give them time to work on the website. We will have a short quiz on the tags to make sure they were paying attention. The homework assigned afterward will be mainly repetition in order for them to memorize the tags.

Week Three

The third session will begin with an introduction to CSS. I will explain to them the basics of CSS and give them examples of how to apply CSS to their website. We will also be reviewing a box model and they will have a short exercise to practice. Then we will end the session with a Kahoot. The homework assigned will be primarily focused on reviewing the box model, and the different types of CSS.

Week Four

The fourth session will be mainly learning new CSS tags and then we will have some time to work on the website. The students will engage in a review of what we learned and add to their notes. Afterward, the students will present their creations to the class.
